I grew up in Colorado and made my first trip to Hawaii with family when I was 15 years old. I always dreamed of living here. I began realize the ‘dream’ and moved to Maui after College in 1979. I worked mostly in the travel business including working for American Express Travel at 3 different locations followed by opening my own activity desks. Eventually I founded Lahaina Travel (in Lahainatown) and Maui Discount Travel (on Dairy Rd- Kahului).
When another adventurer came to Maui and bought my agencies in 1988, I moved to the mainland for the next 16 years., where I worked for a First Class Ticket Broker in New York. . I was then inspired by Bruce Curtiss from Maui “to create a clearing house for distressed hotel rooms”. It was in 1990, along with 2 associates, that we co-founded Hotel Reservations Network (HRN). The WorldWideWeb found us in 1994, and we morphed in to what is now Hotels.com.
We sold the company in 1999 and made our exit December 2003. Myself along with my wife Jodie (whom I met in Maui in the 80’s) and our 4 children returned to Maui in mid 2004 to settle Upcountry.
Along
the way, I have been fortunate to travel to all Continents except South
America and Antarctica. My travel/travel planning experience includes:
North America Ski Country, Continental U.S.,, Alaska/Canada. Costa Rica,
Mexico, Caribbean/ Western Europe including Scandinavia/Turkey/ Israel/West
and East Africa (Kenya)/Asia including Japan, China (PRC), Thailand,
Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia/Australia from Cairns to Perth including
the Outback/Fiji/Tahiti and surrounding Islands and of course all around
the Hawaiian Islands.
These days I focus
more on Cruise Travel and small to medium size groups. My most favorite
is itinerary planning for unique luxury family adventures: ‘family
zip lines to Mangrove cruises in Costa Rica’ ‘Mask making
in Venice, cooking class in Florence, Camel ride and dining in Abraham’s
Tent in the Judean Desert, family treasure hunt of the Louvre, to name
a few!
